At Maple Ridge we teach Numeracy in a way which excites and engages children in the national curriculum, this allows them to apply their skills in a practical and ‘real world’ way and make links between numeracy and their learning in other areas such as topic. We prioritise the skills which will enable children to be as independent as possible and develop life skills, such as time, money and basic calculations.
To do this we use concrete and visual resources, embedding and mastering the important skills needed to make the next steps in their learning. Teachers and adults use Group Education Plans (GEPs) to set clear next step targets which we share with the children and home each half term. These targets also help us to ensure all children’s learning is individualised for their needs.
