At Maple Ridge we place a high priority on teaching Personal and Social Development as the building blocks and skills to all learning. These skills include recognising and understanding emotions, communicating and interacting with others, managing anxiety, problem solving, developing attention and concentration and independence skills including self care.
We teach these skills through specific lessons using the PAATHS curriculum to support and structure their learning. We also teach these skills throughout the day discretely through a variety of social situations such as snack, playtimes, choose and Attention Autism sessions.
Teachers and adults use Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to set clear small next step targets which are closely linked to their needs identified on Education Health Care Plans. These targets also help us to ensure all children’s learning is individualised for their needs.
